United Way Celebrates a Century of Service in Santa Barbara

Nonprofit will mark the milestone with an anniversary celebration

To commemorate a century of building brighter futures for residents, children and families through strong community partnerships, United Way of Santa Barbara County will host its 100th Anniversary Celebration next month.

United Way’s 100 Years of Service celebration will be held at 6 p.m. on June 1 at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum. The event will include an elegant dinner, the presentation of community awards and music and dancing. Tickets and sponsorships are available.

The evening will feature United Way’s 100 Years of Service, as well as the presentation of community awards, including the Century of Service Award and the Community Partnership Award.

“We are proud of our impact in Santa Barbara County, and we couldn’t do it without our community partners, donors and volunteers,” said Steve Ortiz, president and CEO of United Way. “For 100 years, United Way has forged partnerships that allow us to serve our community swiftly and successfully. Whether it’s crises like the Thomas Fire and COVID, or providing financial tools and summer learning and enrichment, we are committed to continuing to help our community for many more years to come. This event will be an opportunity for us to celebrate our impact alongside those who have made it possible these past 100 years.”

United Way serves Santa Barbara County with direct service programming in three initiatives: School Readiness and Academic Achievement; Crisis Response and Recovery; and Financial Empowerment. In 2022, United Way served 10,000 children through its academic achievement programs, assisted more than 8,600 disaster victims through crisis response and recovery programs, and empowered 2,784 people to take control of their future through financial empowerment programs, like tax preparation assistance for low-income individuals.

“We are looking forward to this opportunity to recognize and celebrate all the partners and supporters who have truly been at the heart of our mission,” said Ortiz. “This evening of recognition will be the perfect way to start off the next 100 years for United Way.”
