UC Santa Barbara’s McFarland Nets All-America Honors

Dash McFarland, who produced the joint-highest scoring season by a UC Santa Barbara Men’s Water Polo player in the 21st century, continues to earn accolades for his remarkable campaign. On Thursday, the Gauchos’ center was named to the Association of College Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America Second Team. McFarland’s selection makes it now back-to-back years in which Gauchos have earned All-American honors, with Sam Nangle and Danny Roland taking them home in 2022.

McFarland scored 82 goals for the Gauchos in 2023, matching Milos Golic’s 2008 mark for the fifth-most goals in a season in program history and the most in the 21st century. The big center from Berkeley was the focal point of a Santa Barbara attack which led The Big West with 415 goals scored this season. McFarland and the offensive juggernaut earned the Gauchos the No. 2 seed in The Big West Championship, where they reached their first tournament final since 1990.

Across three years as a Gaucho, McFarland has a clean 140 goals to his name, as well as a Big West Player of the Year award, which he earned this season.
