UC Santa Barbara’s Godsey Places Eighth, Hollander Runs an Impressive 6K

UC Santa Barbara Cross Country got back on the course today, where they went head-to-head with their fellow collegiate runners at the Dellinger Invite. The race, hosted by the University of Oregon, offered the Gauchos a chance to gauge where they stand within the league and assess their individual and team strengths.

“Overall, a really good day,” Coach Jason Zarb-Cousin said. “It was a good opportunity to see where we are and what we need to do going forward.”

Sophomore Ethan Godsey had a phenomenal race, as he placed eighth overall out of 136 runners and scored a time of 24:02.6. His consistent top-tier performance in every race he participates in marks him as a key contributor to the team’s success. The men’s team had a productive day, placing seventh out of 14 teams. The 8K was a new challenge for many of the teammates, but they were able to successfully adjust to the task and persevere.

“Nearly half of the men ran their first-ever 8k, so it was a great learning experience for them,” Zarb-Cousin said. “But our top 3 were just shy of running career bests.”

Senior Manan Vats was the second Gaucho to cross the finish line for the men, running a time of 24:30.9 and placing 38th. Nate Osborn, Van Filek, and Parker Simmons were the final scorers for their team, where they came in 61st, 68th, and 72nd.

The women’s team placed 11th out of 14 teams. Stina Johansson led the way for her team, coming in 50th overall with a time of 21:27.8. Freshman Danielle Hollander ran her first college 6k and delivered an exceptional performance, coming in as the second Gaucho to finish with a time of 21:40.4.

“I was really impressed with Danielle in her debut in the 6k, running the 7th fastest debut 6k in UCSB history,” Zarb-Cousin said.

Sarah Auther, Ashling Carr, and Sierra Ransweiler were the remaining scorers for the women’s team, coming in 83rd, 88th, and 100th place out of 134 finishers.

The Gauchos have several weeks to practice before their next meet, the Nuttycombe Invite, hosted by the University of Wisconsin. UC Santa Barbara Cross Country will head to Madison for their race on Friday, October 13th.
