UC Santa Barbara Women’s Soccer Drops Road Contest at Long Beach State

The UC Santa Barbara Women’s Soccer team fell to Long Beach State 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in a road contest at George Allen Field. A high-scoring second half was not friendly to the Gauchos as they moved to 2-4-6 (0-2-1 Big West).

Long Beach State broke the scoreless tie when Elysia Laramie scored in the 21st minute, the goal was assisted by Kassandra Ceja. A turnover just outside the UC Santa Barbara 18-yard box proved costly as The Beach got on the scoreboard first.

Following the goal, the teams played pretty even for the remainder of the half. LBSU took two shots, with one being on target but Maddie Buckley made her second save of the afternoon to keep the Gauchos in the match. Just before halftime hit, Jessica Tamayo took a shot but would be saved and the teams would go to halftime with Long Beach leading 1-0.

The Beach added another score on a goal from Julia Moore in the 49th minute, and they quickly followed that up with another goal in the 53rd minute. Long Beach State would be in total control of the game after that. In the 77th minute, The Beach extended their lead to 4-0 with another goal.

UC Santa Barbara spoiled Long Beach’s attempt at a shutout and got on the scoreboard on Brenna Madruga’s first goal of the season in the 86th minute, assisted by Jessica Tamayo. The deficit would be too much to overcome and UC Santa Barbara fell 4-1.

UC Santa Barbara will return home on Thursday, Sept. 28, as they host UC Riverside at Harder Stadium. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. For those unable to attend the game will be streamed through ESPN+ with live stats available through ucsbgauchos.com.
