UC Santa Barbara Women’s Basketball Ends Non-Conference Slate With Win Over Life Pacific

The UC Santa Barbara Women’s Basketball team completed the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 107-53 win over the Life Pacific Warriors. 12 Gauchos scored at least three points with 11 recording at least one assist.

Thoughts on the game: “We just overpowered them, and we should but I appreciated the fact that we didn’t take our foot off the gas,” said Henrickson. “We told the team at halftime that we need to think of it like a 0-0 game but our discipline, attention to detail and effort were really good. We got some good minutes off the bench. Liv (Olivia Bradley) had a great day and we have to get her on the floor, she brings a ton to our team. She will make freshman mistakes but we need her on the floor.”

On the height advantage inside: “The first time Flora (Goed) got the ball they double-teamed her and it was like bees on honey,” explained Henrickson. “She adjusted after seeing that and just would pivot and score over the top of them. It was good for her to feel that and adjust from that.”

The Gauchos and Warriors played a back-and-forth first quarter with each team making a run to stay in the game early on. UC Santa Barbara held on to an 11-7 lead halfway through the quarter but Life Pacific went on a 5-0 run to go up 12-11. From there the teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the quarter with neither side able to make it a two-possession game. Olivia Bradley made a layup with eight seconds left in the quarter to give the Gauchos a two-point lead.

After the opening period, it was all Gauchos. In the second quarter alone Santa Barbara shot over 60 percent from the field and over 50 percent from three. Alyssa Marin and Anya Choice led the charge in the second quarter combining to go 6-for-6 from the field and combine for 14 of the Gauchos 29 points in the period. Zoe Borter added six to the Gauchos total hitting two, three-point shots. UC Santa Barbara would outscore the Warriors 29-11 in the period and take a 49-29 lead into the break.

The Gauchos did not stop there as they outscored Life Pacific 28-9 in the third quarter. Flora Goed was dominant down low scoring 10 points and grabbing two rebounds to help the Gauchos extend their lead. Guards Alyssa Marin and Mary McMorris combined for 10 points with neither missing a shot.

The freshmen shined in the fourth quarter, with Zoe Porter, Olivia Bradley and Kanani Coon combining for 24 of the 30 fourth-quarter points. Bradley led the Gauchos with 10 points off 4-of-5 shooting. Analillia Cabana and Kathleen Hutchens each scored their first points of the season in the quarter, both making their three-point shot attempts. Hutchens added two of her three assists in the final period. The Gauchos capped off non-conference play with a 107-53 win.

    • The Gauchos made 43 made field goals ranks second for most made field goals in a single game in program history.
    • The 107 points rank third all-time for points scored in a single game in program history.
