The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) announced this week’s winners for Athletes of the Week. After their opening weekend UC Santa Barbara’s Samantha Banos and Austin Sparrow were named The MPSF Athletes of the Week.
UC Santa Barbara sophomore Samantha Banos tallied four victories in a Gaucho win at Cal Poly on Friday, Oct. 6. Banos was a triple-event individual winner in the 200 free (1:53.89), 200 fly (2:02.21), and 100 fly (56.05), and swam for the first-place 400 free relay (52.31 lead-off). This is the third career MPSF weekly award for Banos.
UC Santa Barbara junior Austin Sparrow had three individual wins in the Gauchos’ team victory at Cal Poly on Oct. 6. He took the 50 free (20.71), 100 free (45.45), and 200 free (1:39.01). He posted an additional win in the 400 free relay (46.19 split). This is the second career MPSF weekly award for Sparrow.
Banos, Sparrow and the Gauchos will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 13 and 14 as they head to Los Angeles for the USC Invite. UC Santa Barbara looks to build off their impressive dual-meet victories against Cal Poly.
