UC Santa Barbara Golf Wraps Up Second Tournament of the Fall at Alister MacKenzie Invite

Gauchos competed at the 19th-annual Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by Cal

The UC Santa Barbara Golf team competed in their second tournament of the fall season, making their way north for the Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by the University of California. This was a very low-scoring tournament, not giving teams much room for error. Despite that, some of the Gauchos found a lot of success at the Meadow Club throughout the tournament.

“There are a lot of positives to take away from this tournament,” said Head Coach Chris Massoletti. “Nick Waldock was solid and looked very mature out there this week. It was a really solid performance from him in his first event. Rajvir Bedi was consistent and steady all three rounds. There are still a lot of things for us to improve on as a team; we are a long way away from where we need to be.”

On the first day of the tournament, the Gauchos played two rounds with freshman Nick Waldock leading his team. In just his first outing for the Blue and Gold, Waldock contributed rounds of 68 and 67, making him tied for 12th. He topped that off with a 71 in round three to go 7-under to tie for 15th in his first collegiate tournament.

Following up behind him was Rajvir Bedi. The senior showed his dependability, coming out even in the first two rounds while going 1-under for the third round for a total score of 212, which was good enough to tie for 43rd. Blake McGovern and Brian Arnold finished the tournament tied for 68th, contributing a combined score of 219 across the three rounds. These four, along with Killian McGinley’s 224, gave UC Santa Barbara a team score of 851, which was good enough to tie for 12th in team scoring.

Host Cal finished the tournament in first place, while UC Davis’s Treed Huang and New Mexico’s Bastien Amat were the individual leaders.

The Gauchos will compete in one more tournament during the fall as they head back up north, this time, competing in the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational hosted by the University of the Pacific. UC Santa Barbara will compete across three days at The Reserve at Spanos Park from Oct. 16-18.
