Spanish Colonial-Style, 17-Acre Montecito Estate Enters Market for First Time in 65 Years

A 1920’s, Spanish colonial-style home with “astonishing” ocean and mountain views and 17 acres of land in Montecito is up for sale for the first time in over a half century.

Designed by renowned Architect Robert Spurgeon Jr., Oakhaven Estate is an authentic version of a Spanish Hacienda house – also referred to as a Mediterranean Courtyard house – a design that dates back to the Roman Empire. The estate, which is on the market for $25 million, was originally built for the architect’s sister, Grace Spurgeon Brooks and her husband, Ralph Brooks, who was from a wealthy Colorado mining family. Its current owner has held the home for the past 65 years.

Set on lush, private grounds, the 6-bedroom, 5-bathroom home sits on approximately 16.98 acres of land consisting of three separate parcels. The home, located at 777 Romero Canyon Rd. in Montecito, is approached via a dramatic, long driveway canopied with mature oaks.

Inside, the home offers over 7,000-square feet of space detailed with craftsmanship unique to the 1920’s era. This includes a library with intricate wood paneling and a fireplace; a grand living room which opens to a courtyard and deck; a primary bedroom with southwesterly views of the ocean; and an expansive sunroom hallway with access to several more bedroom suites.

Other features of the home include a spacious dining room, a breakfast room, a large kitchen, and a butler’s pantry that give a feeling of stepping back in time. Adjacent to the kitchen is a spacious laundry room and access to a separate, two-bedroom wing of the home with its own enclosed patio. The entire property has the feeling of a retreat.

Realtor team Tiffany Doré and Cathy O’Neill with Montecito-based Village Properties are representing the home. Both Santa Barbara natives, the pair have over a decade of experience working together to assist buyers and sellers in Santa Barbara, Montecito, Hope Ranch and the surrounding areas.
