    SBCC Board of Trustees Elects New Officers for 2023

    At its regular monthly meeting on Dec. 15, 2022, the Santa Barbara City College District Board of Trustees elected Jonathan Abboud as president of the Board for the 2023 calendar year. Anna Everett was elected Board vice president. 

    President Abboud joined the Board in December 2014 and represents Area 6 (Goleta, Isla Vista, UCSB). A first-generation American and college graduate, Abboud was born and raised in Los Angeles and has lived in Santa Barbara County since 2010. While attending the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB), he served as student body president, earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 2014, and a Master of Technology Management in 2018. Beginning in 2014, Abboud began working to bring self-governance to Isla Vista and co-founded the Isla Vista Community Services District, where he has served as General Manager since 2017. He is involved in several local and statewide advocacy organizations supporting higher education, the environment, housing and good governance.

    Vice President Everett joined the board in 2020 and represents Area 4 (Santa Barbara). Everett is a media historian and Emeritus Professor of Media and Film Studies at UCSB. She taught and served in a variety of leadership roles at UCSB for 22 years. She is also a Ford Foundation Fellow, a two-time recipient of the Fulbright Senior Scholar award and has published numerous books and articles about Black and African media and film. Her passion lies in the advancement of equity of opportunity for Santa Barbara women and girls from all walks of life, including all races and ethnicities, all genders, all ages, all abilities and all economic classes. In addition to serving on the SBCC Board of Trustees, she currently serves on the Board of the National Association of Commissions for Women (NACW). She has previously served as an appointed Commissioner of the County of Santa Barbara Commission for Women.

    In addition to the election of new officers, the oath of office was administered by outgoing Board President Kate Parker to two new trustees who were chosen by voters in the Nov. 7, 2022, election. The Board welcomed Dr. Charlotte A. Gullap-Moore, DNP, who was elected to the seat vacated by Dr. Peter Haslund; and Ellen Stoddard, who was elected to the seat vacated by Kate Parker. Trustee Marsha Croninger was successful in her race to continue on the Board.

    The members of the SBCC Board of Trustees now include Dr. Charlotte A. Gullap-Moore, DNP (Area 1 – Carpinteria and Montecito), Robert Miller (Area 2 – Goleta), Veronica Gallardo (Area 3 – Santa Barbara), Dr. Anna Everett (Area 4 – Santa Barbara), Marsha Croninger (Area 5 – Mission Canyon and Santa Barbara), Jonathan Abboud (Area 6 – Isla Vista and Santa Barbara), Ellen Stoddard (Area 7 – Santa Barbara), and Student Trustee Adrianina Rajaosera.
