SB Unified Board of Trustee Appointment Process Begins December 1

The Board of Trustees of the Santa Barbara Unified School District intends to appoint a board member to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of incumbent member Laura Capps effective November 30, 2022. Applicants are required to reside within the District’s boundaries (at-large). The provisional appointee will complete Trustee Capps’s remaining term ending November 2024. In 2024, Trustee Capps’ position will go through the election process, and at that time, the candidate will be required to reside in Trustee Area 2 in order to participate in the election.

Interested applicants must complete and submit a Candidate Application Form, reside in the attendance boundaries of the Santa Barbara Unified School District, meet all requirements of the law, and comply with the District’s submission requirements.

The window to submit an application will open on December 1, 2022. The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022. Late applications will not be considered.

Qualified applicants will be interviewed by the Board on Thursday, January 5, 2023, or Thursday, January 12, 2023. The school board will have final deliberations and make an appointment on Thursday, January 5, 2023, or Thursday, January 12, 2023.

The application will be made available on December 1, 2022, at https://www.sbunified.org/board/2022-board-of-trustee-appointment on the District’s website.
