    Newcomers Earn Quality Wins at Women of Troy Invite

    The UC Santa Barbara Women’s Tennis team traveled south to Los Angeles to participate in the Women of Troy Invite, hosted by USC. The Gauchos played in hidden dual matches against USC, Loyola Marymount and CSUN.

    FRIDAY

    In Friday’s hidden dual match against the Trojans, the Gauchos were able to nab two of four singles matches but fell in both doubles competitions. Lucy Lu and Tyra Richardson played a competitive doubles match but would fall 6-4. Valentina Khrebtova and Carla Pacot were unable to get a doubles win and fell 6-0.

    In singles action, Richardson and Khrebtova would come away victorious. Richardson won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 while Khrebtova earned a three-set victory 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8). Lu and Pacot would fall in their singles matchups.

    SATURDAY

    The Gauchos would be matched up against Loyola Marymount for Saturday’s match. Again UC Santa Barbara was unable to collect a doubles win as both the doubles teams fell 6-3.

    Carla Pacot picked up the lone singles win of the afternoon after defeating Kim-Michaela Zahraj in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Lucy Lu almost picked up a second singles win for the Gauchos but fell in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 0-1 (10-7).

    SUNDAY

    On the final day of the invite, UC Santa Barbara would match up with a familiar foe, CSUN. The Gaucho double teams were unable to pick up a victory as Khrebtova and Richardson fell 6-1 and Pacot and Lu fell 6-3.

    The Gauchos bounced back in singles play picking up two wins. Carla Pacot defeated her opponent in straight sets winning 6-4, 6-4. Tyra Richardson also won in straight sets going 6-3, 6-4. Lucy Lu nearly won a third singles match for UC Santa Barbara but fell in three sets. Lu lost the first set 6-0 before evening the score at one set apiece with a 6-2 victory. She would fall in the tie-breaking set 10-6.

    UP NEXT

    The Gauchos will have a weekend off before going to compete in the ITA Southwest Regional in San Diego, Calif. The Regional is set to run Wednesday, Oct. 18 through Monday, Oct. 23.
