We hope you can participate in the first #BeautifyGoleta event of 2023 on Saturday, January 14th, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Unlike previous events, which included organized teams throughout the City, this is a Self-Guided Cleanup format meaning you can pick up litter where you want and when you want. The event also includes a Bulky Item Collection at Goleta City Hall. Here is what you need to know before you go.
Self-Guided Cleanup Program
While the City will resume its organized Beautify Goleta teams format on March 25th, for this first event of the year, community members can pick up litter on their own or organize a clean-up and operate as a Site Captain. All you need is a bucket, gloves and comfortable walking shoes. Learn more about our updated Self-Guided Clean-Up program here. To learn more about what is involved as a Site Captain, click here.
You are encouraged to report the amount of what you collected using an updated report form so progress can be tracked over time. You can submit reports anonymously or provide an email address to be entered into a prize drawing. Collecting data is a crucial component in helping measure the amount of trash collected throughout the City of Goleta. As a reminder, you can pick up litter off streets, in neighborhoods, in parks and in open spaces any day of the year and submit your results. Please do not pick up litter on private property without getting permission from the property owner first.

Bulky Item Collection Event
Bulky Item Collection will be located in the rear parking lot of Goleta City Hall (130 Cremona Drive) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Any drop-offs before or after the event will not be accepted. Residents are able to drop off unwanted bulky items free of charge (no electronics, medicine, or hazardous waste). Look out for City Staff and Big Green Staff, who can help you with your bulky item drop-off.
The bulky item drop-off is in partnership with Caltrans and the Clean CA program. These statewide Dump Day events are made possible through Governor Gavin Newsom’s Clean California initiative, a sweeping $1.1 billion, multiyear clean-up effort led by Caltrans to keep roads and waterways free of litter, create thousands of jobs and transform state and local public spaces through beautification efforts. For more information on the Clean CA program, please visit the Clean CA program online.
The City would like to thank Caltrans, MarBorg, and Big Green Cleaning for their event support. We are also so thankful to our returning clean-up volunteers!
