We hope you will join us for Goleta’s City Council meeting this Tuesday, February 21, at 5:30 p.m. (closed session begins at 4:00 p.m.). We are pleased to continue to offer this meeting both in-person and virtually for community members. We encourage you to join us in City Council Chambers, watch live, and/or participate. Directions for how to do so can be found below. Items on the agenda include:
- City Council will proclaim February 2023 as Black History Month in the City of Goleta. The 2023 Santa Barbara County theme is “Black Resistance.” View the proclamation here: https://tinyurl.com/8ff3jkp6.
- Council will recognize Bicycle Bob’s for its 39 years in business. Bob and Julia Zaratzian founded Bicycle Bob’s March of 1983. Throughout the years, this family owned and operated business has generously supported local schools, non-profits, and law enforcement through bicycle and helmet donations. - City Council will also proclaim February 26 – March 4, 2023, as Peace Corps Week in the City of Goleta. The Peace Corps mission is to promote world peace and friendship. Today, six decades after its founding, over 240,000 Americans have served as Peace Corps volunteers in 142 counties. View the proclamation at https://tinyurl.com/2p82x6zv.
- Council will discuss awarding a professional services agreement for the Ekwill Street and Fowler Road Extensions (Ekwill-Fowler) Project and Hollister Avenue Bridge Project Professional Services Agreement. Both projects are located in Old Town Goleta, have been in development a number of years, and are two of the highest-priority transportation projects in the City. The project locations overlap each other along Hollister Avenue near the Hollister Avenue and State Route 217 intersection. This overlap and the timing of the two federal grants prompted the decision to construct the two projects under a single construction contract and thereby provide efficiency, provide economy of scale, and minimize disruption and lane closures along Hollister Avenue during construction. City Council will discuss adopting a resolution to support the award of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) contract to provide ambulance services to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. The proposed resolution provides that the City of Goleta supports better services through a more comprehensive, transparent and accountable approach to EMS services and thus strongly desires that the County of Santa Barbara award SBC Fire Department the EMS contract to provide ambulance and associated services to the City of Goleta.
