Help Us Thank Goleta Councilmember Roger S. Aceves at December 6 Council Meeting

Additional Meeting Topics Include 2023 Legislative Platform, Creek and Watershed Management Plan and SCE Charge Ready EV Project

We hope you will join us for the Goleta City Council meeting this Tuesday, December 6, at 5:30 p.m. (closed session begins at 4:30 p.m.). It will be a special meeting as we thank Councilmember Roger S. Aceves for his 16 years of distinguished service to the City. Councilmember Aceves is the longest-serving Councilmember in the City’s history and never missed a meeting. He was first elected to the Goleta City Council in 2006, and was re-elected in 2010, 2014 and 2018. He served as Mayor in 2009 and again in 2012. At the upcoming December 6 meeting, he will be presented with a City Tile and attendees will have the opportunity to express their appreciation in person or via Zoom. You can also submit your comments in advance to be read at the meeting. See participation instructions below. If you prefer to send him a message via e-mail he can be reached at raceves@cityofgoleta.org through the end of his term on December 20, 2022.

Additional items on the agenda include:

  • City Council will receive a presentation and discuss the Legislative Platform for Calendar Year 2023. A legislative platform conveys to legislators, policymakers, the public and the media where the City Council stands on important policy issues. A legislative platform allows the City to quickly weigh in on important issues in the upcoming legislative session because of the changing political landscape and issues facing local governments that directly impact the City. View the staff report, including the draft 2023 Legislative Platform and staff presentation, here: https://tinyurl.com/mw87nphv.
  • Council will receive an update on the Creek and Watershed Management Program (CWMP). The CWMP was adopted November 17, 2020, after a 12-month development period with input from the public and stakeholder groups for feedback on the City’s creeks and watersheds. The CWMP focuses on the 12 creeks that run through the City and outlines tasks, projects, and programs to improve water quality, habitat, and all beneficial uses. Building on the success of the previous two years, the City now needs to focus on planning the next phases for CWMP implementation. • City Council will discuss approving the City Hall Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure and SCE Charge Ready Project. The City has been selected as a potential participant in SCE’s Charge Ready Program for the Goleta City Hall site, which will provide ‘make ready’ EV infrastructure and EV equipment rebate support for the installation of 17 EV chargers at City Hall. The approximate timeline according to SCE Charge Ready staff once they receive the City’s purchase order for the EV chargers is 9 to 12 months for construction to be complete. After SCE’s construction is complete, the City will then move forward with installing the EV charging equipment. Staff has identified other potential funding sources to help offset the cost of EV chargers to the City. The staff report and presentation are available here: https://tinyurl.com/3yhbpex4.
