Of Estill Springs, Tennessee, formerly of Santa Barbara, peacefully passed away at home on November 6, 2012, of natural causes. Dave was born May 16, 1944, in Toronto, Canada and is preceded in death by his parents Laurence and Minnie Swann and sister Laureen Swann Buckner. Dave is survived by his daughter Kimberly Swann and his brother Donald Swann, niece Tina Okpysh and nephews Jeff Swann, Garrett Swann and Teran Buckner. Dave was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1965 and obtained his bachelor’s degree in Physics with honors from UCSB in 1970.
Dave completed his graduate studies at the University of Colorado in the field of Astro-Geophysics and returned to S.B. to join Delco, where he worked as a physicist from 1973-1988. From 1988 until his passing, Dave worked as a Senior Scientist at the U.S. Air Forces Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tennessee.
Dave was extremely athletic and worked out daily at the gym. He particularly enjoyed tennis, skiing and hockey.
A memorial service will be held for him on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Good Shepard Lutheran Church at 380 N. Fairview Avenue at 11:00 a.m.
